Yet another wink wink nod nod to the Mystery Schools...
"The head of the Russian space agency said today that it was considering a Hollywood-style mission to send a spacecraft to bump a large asteroid from a possible collision course with Earth.
Anatoly Perminov told the Russian radio station Golos Rossii: "People's lives are at stake. We should pay several hundred million dollars and build a system that would allow us to prevent a collision, rather than sit and wait for it to happen and kill hundreds of thousands of people."
The mission would be aimed at an asteroid called Apophis, he said, which is expected to pass close to the Earth in 2029 and again in 2036. "Calculations show that it's possible to create a special-purpose spacecraft within the time we have, which would help avoid the collision. The threat of collision can be averted."" -Guardian
Above and beyond the story being strange in and of itself, there's this little wink to the occult world of the Mystery Schools.
Apophis isn't just the name of an asteroid, it's also the name of an Egyptian god of the underworld and enemy of the sun god Ra.
Wikipedia tells us the following about Apophis:
In Egyptian mythology, Apophis was an evil demon, the deification of darkness and chaos, and thus opponent of light and Ma'at (order/truth), whose existence was believed from the Middle Kingdom onwards.
As the personification of all that was evil Apophis or Apep for short, was seen as a giant snake/serpent, crocodile, or occasionally as a dragon in later years, leading to such titles as Serpent from the Nile and Evil Lizard.
Tales of Apep's battles against Ra were elaborated during the New Kingdom. Since nearly everyone can see that the sun is not attacked by a giant snake during the day, every day, storytellers said that Apep must lie just below the horizon. This appropriately made him a part of the underworld, which attacked the sun each night.
Apep was not so much worshipped, as worshipped against. His defeat each night, in favour of Ra, was thought to be ensured by the prayers of the Egyptian priests and worshipers at temples. The Egyptians practiced a number of rituals and superstitions that were thought to ward off Apep, and aid Ra to continue his journey across the sky.
The Egyptian priests even had a detailed guide to fighting Apep, referred to as The Books of Overthrowing Apep or (in Greek) the Book of Apophis. The chapters described a gradual process of dismemberment and disposal, and include:
- Spitting Upon Apep
- Defiling Apep with the Left Foot
- Taking a Lance to Smite Apep
- Fettering Apep
- Taking a Knife to Smite Apep
- Laying Fire Upon Apep
Scientists are looking at using a series of mirrors, lights and even paint could change the way the object absorbed light and heat enough to shift its direction over 20 years or so. This is somewhat of an ironic link to viewing this kind of action as war between Ra the sun god and Apophis, the serpent demon of darkness.
And if all else fails, they could always follow the instructions set forth in the book of Apophis and dismember it by laying nuclear "fire" upon it.
With less notice, mankind could be forced to take more drastic measures, such as setting off a massive explosion on or near the object to change its course.
I know many will read something like this and ponder its meaning in accordance to the Wormwood prophecy in Revelation 8:10-11:
"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."
In reality, it's impossible to tell how these things will play out.
It is important to understand that alchemists, magicians, and astrologers have long naming of objects, as well as in the Heavens in accordance to the occult belief that they are creating magic sigils or symbols.
They believe that in drawing attention (and emotion) to said symbol, they are imbuing the thing they represent with the power to manifest.
If that sounds silly even the alternative "sending a probe to circle around a dangerous asteroid and gradually change its trajectory" has its ties in occult binding rituals. When magicians conjure demons, they believe they need to create a circle within which the demon is to be bound.
"When Summoned, the Demon must be CONTROLLED; by... putting Him in the (Inner) CIRCLE. A Demon in the Circle must grant MINOR FAVOURS (for which see the Grimoires) that are requested of Him, within His Powers."
Hence, there is circle around a pentagram which is the most commonly known means of the occult world's demon summoning practices, universally known as a symbol of Satanism and/or the occult.
Whatever the case, scientists, astronomers, and everyone who builds machinery and components used in such a mission stand to gain financial reward for any such expeditions... likely at the expense of taxpayers for no apparent reason.
"When Apophis was discovered in 2004, astronomers made headlines when they said there was a one in 37 chance that the 350-metre-wide rock would collide with Earth in 2029. Further studies ruled out such an impact, but there remains a one in 250,000 chance it could strike in 2036."
This is really a non story beyond it being more proof that no matter how sophisticated we'd like to believe the world, let alone modern astronomy has become, its still heavily influenced by ancient Egyptian astrology, sun worship, and the occult.
